For Fairfield soccer, Monday was an up and down day on the pitch as both the boys and girls team faced off with the Chiefs of Keokuk.
On the boys’ side, the Trojans were winners of a hard fought bout 2-1, while the girls saw a stellar second half end with Keokuk on top 3-2.
The matchup with the Chiefs marks the end of the Southeast Conference season for both of the Trojan squads.
It wasn’t an easy one for the Fairfield boys as Keokuk stayed right in the rearview, but the pair of goals ended up being enough.
Fairfield found the net once in the first half and once in the second as juniors Miles Siemsen and Cooper Polonsky were able to get their feet on the end of the ball.
Keokuk came back with a goal of its own, but the Trojans were able to stave off the Chiefs for their fifth victory of the year.
Mikael Anderson tallied six saves in goal for the Trojans.
Fairfield ends SEC play at 4-6, good enough for fourth overall. The Trojans overall record is now 5-7. They will take on Centerville on Thursday.
In the girls’ match, Keokuk opened up the scoring with one in the first half, but the Trojans never gave up.
Fairfield bounced back in the second with two of its own, but it wasn’t quite enough as Keokuk scored a pair as well to give itself a one point advantage.
The Trojans kept on clawing, but never found the tying goal.
With the loss, Fairfield drops to 0-13 on the season and finishes SEC play at 0-10. They sit at sixth in the conference standings.
They will look to get a victory on Thursday against Centerville on the road.
