Fairfield softball splits heading into the weekend
Trojans defeat Fort Madison, fall to Solon

Fairfield softball saw victory and defeat in Thursday and Friday afternoon action.
On Thursday, the Trojans topped Fort Madison 7-1 for their third straight win over the Bloodhounds.
Friday, the Trojans headed up to Iowa City for the Iowa City West Softball Classic. Fairfield took on Solon in its lone game and was bested 7-1.
Against Fort Madison, both squads went scoreless through the opening two frames, but Fairfield got on the board in the third.
The Trojans brought three runs home in the third, which would be more than enough for the victory.
After a scoreless fourth, Fort Madison brought its lone run home in the bottom of the fifth.
Fairfield solidified the victory with four additional runs in the sixth frame.
Peyton McCabe and Morgan Ament both finished with two hits and two RBIs in the game.
Coty Engle, Savannah Hollander, Claire Thompson, Laney Norris and Emmelia Miller all had one hit.
Thompson and Norris both finished with an RBI as well.
Coty Engle took the victory in the circle after pitching a complete game. She gave up one run (one earned) on two hits and three strikeouts.
Against Solon, the Spartans and Trojans were knotted at 1-1 after the first frame.
Fairfield never scored again.
Solon went on to score six runs between the second and fourth inning to take the victory.
Coty Engle, Savannah Hollander, Peyton McCabe, Laney Norris and Claire Thompson all at one hit in the game.
Engle and Thompson both pitched a combined four innings, giving up four hits, seven runs (six earned) and two strikeouts.
The Trojans move to 4-3 on the season.
Fairfield will return to action on Monday against Burlington.
