Fairfield softball splits with EBF
Trojans win game one, come up short in game two to Rockets

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield softball team went to battle with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Thursday night in a doubleheader.
The Trojans and Rockets battled throughout both games as the two teams split.
Fairfield was victorious in the opening game 6-5, while the Rockets took the second 11-8.
In the opening contest, the two squads were almost identical.
Through two innings in the opening game, the two squads were neck and neck and knotted at 2-2.
After a pair of scoreless innings through the third and fourth, both the Trojans and Rockets scored two in the fifth to make it 4-4.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont took the lead once again in its half of the sixth, but the Trojans answered the call with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Heading into the seventh, the game was tied at five all.
In the seventh, the Trojans were able to halt the Rockets at the plate and Fairfield delivered a walk-off in its half of the inning to win it.
Coty Engle and Claire Thompson both tallied three hits for the Trojans. Thompson also added three RBIs.
Laney Norris finished with a pair of hits and an RBI as well.
Lilly Bergren finished with an RBI as well.
In the circle, Engle gave up six hits, five runs (three earned) along with eight strikeouts.
In game two, the Trojans jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one while holding the Rockets scoreless through two innings.
EBF followed with two big innings to take the advantage.
The Rockets scored four in the third and three in the fourth.
Fairfield scored one in its half of the fourth, but the Rockets held a 7-2 lead.
Between the fifth and sixth, the Rockets added four more runs.
The Trojans were able to score six of their own between that span, but the EBF lead was too great to overcome in the end.
Morgan Ament finished with two hits and three RBIs in the game two loss for Fairfield.
Thompson tallied one hit and two RBIs.
Bergren and Norris each had a hit and an RBI. Engle finished with one hit.
Thompson and Norris both threw for the Trojans. They combined for 10 hits, 11 runs (eight earned), 10 walks and six strikeouts.
Fairfield moves to 1-2 on the season and will take on Fort Madison (2-0) Tuesday.
