Fairfield splits in triangular
Trojan wrestling defeats Chariton, but comes up short to North Mahaska

CHARITON — The Fairfield wrestling team took a trip to Chariton on Tuesday night, competing in a triangular with both Chariton and North Mahaska.
The Trojans had nice outing on the mat, downing the host Chargers 49-30 and narrowly falling to North Mahaska 42-32.
In the opening match against Chariton, the Trojans had 11 total winners.
Zach Westercamp kicked things off with a 1:18 pin at 132 over the Chargers Jacobie Garland.
Elijah Simon was victorious by fall as well at 138 for Fairfield, downing Kaleb Carr in 1:02.
At 145 Cason Miller took the win by forfeit.
Aiden Lyons put the Trojans up 24-0 with a 1:28 pin of Kenton Jensen at 152.
Chariton got on the board at 160, as the Trojans Brody Lyons was pinned after 5:19 minutes of battle against the Chargers Kaiden Anderson.
At 170 Aiden Westercamp gave Fairfield six more points, pinning Griffin Willis in 2:36.
Dain Burkhart secured three points for the Trojans as he defeated Ian Wilson by decision, 6-1.
The Chargers second victory of the night came at 195, as Fairfield’s Logan Johnson lost by fall to Jayden Allen-Winston in 4:29.
Fairfield followed up with three straight wins though.
Dre Smithburg won by fall in 3:00 over Dane Dyer at 220.
Kegan Pilcher was a winner at 285 over Dakota Wilson by major decision, 11-1.
At 106, Cael McCabe downed Dylan Chandler in 2:36.
Chariton got six points at 113 as the Charger’s Jacob Chapman took the forfeit.
At 120, Octavio Garcia of Chariton defeated Matthew Kensel of Fairfield by fall in 1:06.
The Charger’s Blake Sharp finished off the scoring on the night taking the 126 bout by forfeit.
Against North Mahaska, it was a battle through and through.
In the opening match between the two squads, Fairfield’s Elijah Simons was defeated in a drawn out match at 138 by Hunter Wernli.
Cason Miller pulled the Trojans within three at 145, downing Paul De Jong by decision, 6-0.
Brody Lyons was a decision winner as well at 160. Lyons won 6-4 over Andy Knockel.
At 170, Fairfield’s Aiden Westercamp was pinned by Wyatt VanWeelden in 1:20.
The Trojans answered with a trio of victories.
Dain Burkhart won by fall at 182, in 3:02. Logan Johnson won big at 195, securing a major decision, 16-2. Dre Smithburg took the 220 match by fall in 2:49.
At 285, the Trojan’s Kegan Pilcher was topped by Trace Goemaat in 16 seconds.
Cael McCabe grabbed his second victory of the night at 106, defeating Ryan Groom by major decision, 12-0.
North Mahaska took the win bout with three straight wins.
Larry Daniels took a forfeit victory at 113. Fairfield’s Matthew Kensel was defeated by fall in 1:33. Matt German was a winner by forfeit at 126.
Zach Westercamp of Fairfield was able to pin Dylan Meland in 1:33, but it wasn’t enough to take the match.
