Fairfield swimmers top Tipton, Linn-Mar

TIPTON ? The Fairfield girls? swim team won its first meet of the season Monday, outscoring the competition by 18 points at a triangular in Tipton.

The Trojans scored 114 points to finish ahead of host school Tipton. Linn-Mar came in third with 85.

Newcomers to the Fairfield swim team came up big to score 16 points for the Trojan girls.

Megan Palmer swam the 200-freestyle for the first time, while Eden Bell and Paige Palmer tried out the 200-individual medley; those three races alone brought in eight points. Paige Palmer brought in an additional three points in the 100-breaststroke. Jaci Bell traded the diving board for the lap lanes and scored four points, while Katrina Jackson scored an additional point in the 100-freestyle for the Trojans.

The team of Baylee Bowman, Abby McMahon, Jade Greiner and Claire Slechta kicked off the evening strong with a first-place finish in the 200-medley relay (2:04.06). The foursome also scored 10 points in the 200-freestyle relay with a second-place finish (1:51.68).

Slechta pulled in her first individual top finish of the year in the 100-freestyle (1:08.65), and Greiner won both the 50- and 500-freestyle races. Bowman was first in the 200-freestyle and 100-backstroke, while McMahon came out on top in the 100-breaststroke.

Also for the Trojans, McMahon finished second in the 100-butterfly (1:17.51), and Hanna Kerr was second in the 100-backstroke (1:20.02) and fourth in the 100-butterfly (1:28.13).

The Trojan girls will be back in the water Oct. 4 at Keokuk.
