Fairfield tennis doubles up on Fort Madison
Trojan girls and boys open season with victory over SEC foe Bloodhounds

Last Thursday marked the beginning of the tennis season for Fairfield boys and girls tennis.
It was a great first night of competition for both Trojan squads as each picked up not only their first win of the season, but Southeast Conference win as well.
The Trojan girls nearly swept the Bloodhounds, finishing with an 8-1 win. The boys on the other hand, picked up the sweep topping Fort Madison 9-0.
On the girls’ side, the Trojans’ lone loss came in singles.
Emma Wendland grabbed a No. 1 singles win after downing Fort Madison’s Lila Shepard 6-1 in two sets.
Lola Hatchette battled the Bloodhounds Lillian Buckner to a 2-0 victory, 6-1 and 7-6 (7-4).
Natalie Steele took care of business in the No. 3 match. Steele defeated Elizabeth Tanner 6-0 in both sets.
No. 4 Sriya Yammanur and No. 5 Una Carter were both winners as well. Yammanur defeated Brook Johnson 6-1, 6-1, while Carter notched a victory 6-3, 6-0.
Fairfield’s Hannah Applegate suffered a tough defeat in the No. 6 match, 6-1, 6-1 to Fort Madison’s Lily Arnold.
The Trojans continued to dominate in doubles as well. Wendland and Carter took the No. 1 doubles match 7-5, 6-2 over Shepard and Buckner.
Steele and Yammanur were victorious over Johnson and Tanner 6-0, 6-0. Mareyn Dunkin and Faeven Gebremarium were both winners in the No. 3 doubles match 6-1 and 6-2.
As for the Trojan boys, they dropped just one set on the day.
Ruimin Luo got his first win of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 1 match.
Han Wang battled to a 6-3, 6-7 (6-8) win in the No. 2 match. Austin Loria, Ethan Cass, Rylan Anderson and Niko Emerson all followed with 2-0 set wins as well.
In doubles, Luo and Wang won 6-3, 6-0. Loria and Emerson were winners 6-0, 6-1. Finally, Cass and Anderson carded a win 6-1, 6-0.
