Fairfield tennis splits against Keokuk
Boys pick up a win, while girls come up short

Fairfield had a great individual day on the tennis courts Thursday against the Chiefs of Keokuk, and by the end of each competition, the boys had won big, 8-1, and the girls fell just short, 5-4.
On the boys side, the Trojans only loss came in the No. 1 singles match. Fairfield’s Garrett Flanagan was defeated by Keokuk’s Ivan Lopez 6-3 and 6-2.
Fairfield would win the next eight matches.
The Trojan’s Jace Hannes took care of business in the No. 2 match, downing Brendan Worster 6-2 and 4-6 (12-10).
Brendan Marcellus picked up a victory for Fairfield, defeating Thomas Nemecek 6-0 in both sets.
Dil Hurlin won the No. 4 contest over Blaine Austen 6-2 in each of the two sets.
Jack Unger and Aidan Flanagan each won on no contest.
Fairfield had no problem in the doubles matches, as Flanagan and Hannes won the No. 1 match 7-5 and 3-6 (10-8). Aidan Flanagan and Unger won both sets in the No. 2 match 6-2. Hurlin and Emerson were winners, 6-0, in each of their two sets in the No. 3 matchup.
In the girls matches, Tess Paton was victorious in the No. 1 match 8-0 over Olivia Rule.
Sydney Wells won the No. 2 contest, 8-3, over Julia de Gala.
Fairfield lost three of the final four singles matches, making it a 3-3 tie heading into the doubles matches.
Madison Greiner fell in the No. 3 match 9-7, Giteeka Adhikari lost in the No. 4 bout 8-2.
The Trojan’s Emma Wendland picked up a win in the No. 5 match 8-3, defeating Sophia Rule.
Aspen Heckethorn was defeated in the No. 6 singles match 8-1.
To pull out a win the Trojans would need to win at least two of the doubles matches, but they only came away with one.
Paton and Greiner won the No. 1 match, 8-1, but Wells and Giteeka, along with Wendland and Aspen loss the final two 9-7 and 8-2.
The Trojan boys are now 1-3 and will play against Fort Madison on Monday. The girls move to 1-4 and will play Burlington on Monday, April 25.
