Fairfield tennis splits with Burlington

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield girls tennis team continued to shred Southeast Iowa competition on Monday, beating Burlington on the road, 7-2. The boys team took another nail-biting loss, falling 5-4.
The Fairfield girls won four of six in the singles round, including the top three matches. Katrina Paton rolled 8-3 in the No. 1 game. Penelope Higdon won the No. 2 game 8-4, and Abby Schaefer took the No. 3 game 8-6.
Fairfield’s fourth singles win came from Olivia Jones, who won the No. 5 match 8-2. Both No. 4 Lauren Kraemer and No. 6 Sydney Wells fell 8-5.
The Trojans swept in doubles. Paton and Schaefer took the No. 1 match 8-2. Higdon and Kraemer won the No. 2 match 8-4, and Jones and Wells took the No. 3 match 8-4.
Back in Fairfield, the Trojan boys split the singles matches 3-3. Jeremy Goodale won the No. 2 match 6-3, 2-6, (10-7). Garrett Flanagan won the No. 4 match 6-2, 6-4 and Tristan Paton won the No. 6 match 6-4, 6-1.
In the No. 1 match, Blake Holden was swept 6-3, 6-3. Brecken Courtright lost 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 3 match, and Jace Hannes fell 6-4, 6-7, (7-4) in the No. 5 match.
The Trojan boys won just won doubles match, as Hannes and Flanagan won the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-4. The No. 1 team of Holden and Goodale lost 6-3, 6-1, and the No. 3 team of Courtright and Cameron Harvey fell 5-7, 6-0, (10-3).
