Fairfield tennis stays unbeaten with win over Mt. Pleasant

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield boys and girls tennis teams have been on a roll in the early season.
Both Trojans squads are still unbeaten and closed out the week with yet another notch in the win column.
On Thursday, the Fairfield girls took care of business against their cross town rival in Maharishi. The Trojans came out on top 8-1.
Much like the girls, the Trojan boys finished the week with an 8-1 win as well. Fairfield defeated Mt. Pleasant in a Southeast Conference battle.
When Mt. Pleasant headed into Fairfield on Friday afternoon it was a battle of unbeatens. However, it was the Trojans who stayed perfect after dropping just one match to the Panthers.
Ruimin Luo (6-1, 6-1), Han Wang (6-3, 6-4), Bowen Zhang (6-3, 6-0), Rylan Anderson (7-5, 6-4) and Niko Emerson (6-4, 3-6 (10-7) were all Fairfield winners.
Sawyer Fulton, Max Heater, Dan Cook, Elijah Rynders and Beckham Prough came up short for the Panthers.
Mt. Pleasant’s Lou Schimmelpfennig notched the Panthers’ lone win on the day. Schimmelpfennig won a tightly contested battle against Ethan Cass 7-5, 1-6 (12-10).
In doubles, Wang and Cass topped Fulton and Schimmelpfennig 5-7, 6-1 (2-10). Luo and Zhang defeated Heater and Cook 6-4, 4-6 (10-4). In the third match, Anderson and Emerson won over Rynders and Prough 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).
Fairfield improves to 5-0 with the win, while Mt. Pleasant moves to 5-1.
On the Trojan girls’ side of things, Poojita Mukadam, Natalie Steele, Mareyn Dunkin, Faith Jones and Faeven Gebremariam were all winners.
The closest singles match of the afternoon came in Mukadam’s 8-3 win over Ria Altynska-Ross.
Fairfield’s only loss on the day came when the Pioneer’s Aparajita Kalra defeated the Trojans Emma Wendland 8-2.
In doubles, Mukadam and Steele took care of business 8-1 against Ria Altynska Ross and Joyce Wang. Dunkin and Jones defeated Aparajita Kalra and Sohani Singh 8-3. In the third match, Wendland and Gebremariam were 8-0 winners over Chaeyoon Kim and Kathy Tang.
The Trojans girls jump to 7-0 on the season.
