Fairfield tennis teams sweep Keokuk
Trojan boys skunk Chiefs 9-0, girls pull out close victory

FAIRFIELD — Both Fairfield tennis teams scooped up Southeast Conference wins over Keokuk on Thursday. The Trojan boys won 9-0 at home, and the girls eked out a 5-4 road victory.
At Fairfield Middle School, the Trojan boys were all over the Chiefs, sweeping every single competition.
In singles, Ruimin Luo rolled 6-0 and 6-4 to win the No. 1 match. Han Wang dominated the No. 2 match, 6-2 and 6-2, and Austin Loria took the No. 3 match 6-0 and 6-0.
Ethan Cass won the No. 4 singles match 6-1 and 6-0. Rylan Anderson took the No. 5 match 6-0 and 6-1, and Niko Emerson took the No. 6 match 6-0 and 6-0.
Fairfield continued to dominate in doubles. Luo and Wang flew to a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 1 doubles match. Loria and Emerson won the No. 2 match 6-0 and 6-0, and Cass and Anderson took the No. 3 match 6-0 and 6-1.
In Keokuk, the Fairfield girls had quite the battle. The Trojans had four wins in singles play and one in doubles to win the match by one.
Emma Wendland took the No. 1 singles match 6-2 and 6-1. Una Carter won the No. 4 match 6-3 and 6-4. Mareyn Dunkin won the No. 5 match 6-0 and 6-0, and Faeven Gebremarium won the No. 6 match via tiebreaker after falling 6-4 in the first game and winning the second 6-3.
Falling in singles play was No. 2 Natalie Steele, who dropped her match 6-2 and 6-1, and No. 3 Lola Hathcette, who fell 6-1 and 6-3.
Fairfield’s lone doubles win came in thrilling fashion. After Wendland and Hatchette lost 8-2 in the No. 1 match and Carter and Gebremarium dropped the No. 3 match 8-3, the Trojans picked up a much-needed victory at No. 2 doubles when Steele and Dunkin pulled out the 9-7 victory.
