Fairfield tennis teams topple Davis County

The band was back together for the Fairfield boys? tennis team as it posted its fifth win of the season Thursday.
The Trojans, with their varsity lineup intact, topped Davis County 6-3 at the Fairfield Middle School tennis courts.
Three matches came down to supertiebreakers, and Fairfield won two of the three. Both wins involved team captain and senior Matt Burnstedt, who is making a habit of losing the first set before rallying for strong finishes.
Playing at No. 5 singles, Burnstedt won his first supertiebreaker 10-7, and along with Alexander Punj won the No. 2 doubles tiebreaker 10-6.
No. 1 Punj and No. 2 Sean Soupiset continued to provide consistency at the top of the lineup in singles play. Punj, a freshman, defeated Davis County?s Damen Dixon 6-3, 6-0 to remain undefeated in singles play; junior Soupiset breezed past Park Mikels 6-0, 6-1. Matt McCan, the Trojans? No. 6, topped Clayton Huisizer 6-4, 6-4.
Soupiset and Tommy Price were winners at No. 1 doubles, topping Davis County?s best duo 6-4, 6-4.
The Trojans (5-2-1) continue their homestand today with Albia set to visit.

Girls win sixth straight
BLOOMFIELD ? The Fairfield girls? tennis team continued its midseason roll with a 7-2 win at Davis County Thursday.
The Trojans had little trouble finding the win column and posted lopsided scores throughout the evening. No. 1 Jennifer Clements and No. 6 Karley Williams both posted 8-0 victories. Haylee Gilpin won 8-2 at No. 2 singles, No. 3 Alex Higdon won 8-3, and Megan Palmer grabbed an 8-1 win at No. 4 singles.
Higdon and Palmer both tacked on their second win of the day at No. 2 doubles, and Williams and Kim O?Carroll combined efforts for a win at No. 3 doubles.
The Trojans, with a record of 8-1, have now won six straight. Fairfield looks to continue its hot streak Saturday at the Burlington Invitational.
