Fairfield tops Washington on the mats
Trojans win 10 matches, Demons four in Southeast Conference head-to-head

FAIRFIELD — The Southeast Conference wrestling season continued on Thursday night with another installment of Washington versus Fairfield.
This time around, the Trojans were victorious over the Demons 57-21. It was an all around stellar performance for Fairfield, as the Trojans won 10 matches across the 14 weight classes.
Washington ended with four individual wins on the day.
For Fairfield, seven of the 10 wins came by fall as Aaron Wellnitz (132), Cason Miller (157), Calvin McClain (165), Brody Lyons (190), Dre Smithburg (215), Noah Patel (106) and Cael McCabe (113) all earned pins.
The other three winners was a decision finish and a pair of forfeits. In one of the most exciting matches of the night, Dain Burkhart went down to the wire with the Demons Blaine Rees for a 6-5 decision victory at 175.
Fairfield’s pair of forfeit wins came from Jacob Crew at 126 and Aiden Westercamp at 150.
Three of the four Demon victorious came by fall. Aaron Boone (138), Rudy Wolfe (285) and Nate Edmonds (120) all pinned their opponent.
Jude Carter grabbed the other Washington win with an intense sudden victory 4-1, over the Trojan’s Zandrik Allison.
There were also three girls’ matches between the Trojans and Demons.
Washington won two of three with Ryha Wellington defeating Haley Ulin by decision 6-2 at 140. Peggy Miller notched the other Demon win with a pin at 145 over Ulin.
Fairfield’s one girls’ win came from Alyia Abbott at 120. Abbott pinned the Demons Allison Reed after three and a half minutes.
