FAIRFIELD - The Trojans tamed the Grayhounds, 74-36, Friday in a high school girls basketball game.
Burlington remains winless in the Southeast Conference at 0-3 and 0-4 overall while Fairfield improves to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the league.
'Burlington was short-staffed and that was a factor in the game,” Fairfield head coach Jeff Miller said. 'It was great going into the holiday break with a conference win.”
The Trojans attacked early, taking a 25-8 first-quarter lead and 49-15 at halftime.
Danielle Breen led Fairfield with 15 points while Destiney Gridley notched 12 and Darby Kaska 11. Shaylin Drish scored nine and Delaney Breen eight.

Pekin gets first North loss
The Panthers lost at Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division foe Louisa-Muscatine 48-36.
'They have some really good athletes,” Pekin coach Davis Eidahl said of the Falcons. 'We got in foul trouble early. Sophie Wiitrock fouled out in the third quarter. Kerrigan Pope had four fouls in the third quarter. It was not our best night. We do not have a very deep team and that hurts. The girls always play hard and have a good attitude. We will bounce back.”
Pope finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Wittrock had five rebounds, two assists but was held scoreless. Emilee Linder had eight points while Erika Coleman put up 15 points, took down eight rebounds and doled out two assists.
Pekin is 6-1 overall and in the North. The Panthers play at Mediapolis Jan. 3. Louisa-Muscatine is 6-1, 5-1.
