Trojans fight with No. 10 Wilton, fall short

WILTON — The Fairfield volleyball team had its hands full on Tuesday night, as the Trojans headed to Wilton for the Class 3A Region 8 opener.
The Trojans took the 10th-ranked Beavers down to the wire in two of three sets played, but couldn’t take any in a three-set loss. Wilton moved on in the regional 25-10, 25-20, 25-22.
Lilly Bergren led Fairfield with seven kills in the loss. Jaden Haynes finished the night with three. Maddy Martin and Natalie Steele had two each, and both Jolie Crile and Elyse Setterstrom finished with one.
Faith Jones led the Trojans with 15 assists in the loss. Bergren and Jones had 12 and 11 digs respectively. Iris Lane finished with nine digs. Isabel McCready and Olivia Hollander each had two, and Hollander paced the team with a pair of service aces.
The Trojans ended the season 17-20. It was the final game efor seniors Bergren, Hollander, Grace Lyon and Jolie Crile, as well as the injured Claire Thompson.
