Fairfield, Washington compete in triangular
Trojans win pair, Washington drops two in meet with Ottumwa

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield, Washington and Ottumwa all did battle on the wrestling mat in Fairfield on Thursday night.
The meet marked the first meeting of the season for the Southeast Conference foes in Fairfield and Washington.
Fairfield were winners over both teams on the night. The Trojans defeated Washington 44-27 and took down Ottumwa 48-33.
Washington dropped both their matchups, following the loss to Fairfield with a 51-24 loss to Ottumwa.
Fairfield and Washington kick off the evening festivities with the boys and then girls.
The first match of the night went in favor of Washington though as the Demons Jack Kleese took care of the Trojan’s Julian Pumphrey by fall in 1:02 in the 132 match.
Zach Westercamp and Cason Miller got nine point back for the Trojans as Westercamp hung on for a late 3-2 decision over Washington’s Jude Carter at 138 and Miller took the 145 match by forfeit to put the Trojans up 9-6 on the night.
Washington bounced back though at 152 and 160 as Lane Schrock pinned Aiden Lyons in 1:09 and Chase Greiner downed Brody Lyons by fall in 1:33.
The pair of wins put the Demons back up 18-9.
Fairfield would get big points over the next seven matches.
At 170, the Trojan’s Aiden Westercamp won by forfeit.
Dain Burkhart got a hard fought win over Curtis Stender by decision, 6-3.
At 220 and 285, Fairfield’s Dre Smithburg and Kenneth Craig each won by forfeit.
Cael McCabe handled business at 106 with a major decision, 9-0, victory over the Demons Max Anderson.
Jacob Crew got another win by major decision for the Trojans defeated Washington’s Nate Edmonds 8-0, giving Fairfield a 44-18 lead.
For Washington, 120 pound wrestler Aaron Boone got the Demons back in the win column with a fall victory against Ben Sirdoreus in 1:00 making it 44-24 in favor of the Trojans.
In the final match of the night between the two squads at 126, the Demons Layne Moore defeated the Trojans Matthew Kensel in a down to the wire battle by decision, 7-5.
Washington and Ottumwa squared off in the second matchup of the night.
In the loss, the Demons had four winners.
Curtis Stender won by fall in 1:48 at 195. Jace Sanders won by fall in 45 seconds at 120. Aaron Boone was a winner in 1:36 at 126 and Jack Kleese won at 132 by fall in 5:16 as well.
As for Fairfield, the Trojans had eight winners against Ottumwa.
Cason Miller (145), Brody Lyons (160), Dain Burkhart (182), Dre Smithburg (220), Kenneth Craig (285), Ben Sirdoreus (126) and Elijah Simons (138) were all winners by fall. Cael McCabe took the forfeit win at 106.
On the girls side, Washington’s Teegan Sulentich picked up a pair of wins. Sulentich won both of her matches by fall in 1:22 and 27 seconds at 155.
Jenna Bose split her two matches, winning by fall in 3:26 and losing by a tight 9-7 decision at 145.
Peggy Miller split as well at 135, winning by fall in 5:15 and dropping another by pin in 31 seconds.
For Fairfield, Arwyd Hays (155) won twice, once by fall in 4:29 and decision 9-7. She also dropped one by fall in 1:22.
Alyia Abbott (110) and Jaydin Sharfe (120) each won by fall as well, 1:57 and 3:17.
