FAIRFIELD — One week after a tough home loss to rival Mt. Pleasant, the Fairfield football team has a chance to not only put Week 1 behind them, but the past five years as well.
Nobody has tormented the Trojans like Fort Madison hs over the last decade. Fairfield had completely dominated the all-time series until 2019, and since then, the Bloodhounds are on a five-game winning streak.
Even more devastating is how that winning streak has come about. The Bloodhounds have won three of those five games by seven points or less, a 23-16 overtime win in 2019, a 16-13 grinder in 2022 and a 21-14 nail-biter in 2023, that saw the Bloodhounds score the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Fairfield may have lost against its Highway 34 rivals last Friday night, but the Trojans did fair better than the Bloodhounds. Fort Madison is coming off a 35-7 blowout loss against Burlington.
Friday night’s game will kick off at 7:30 p.m., at Trojan stadium in Fairfield.
