Fairfield wrestling competes in Bob Murphy Tournament
Trojans place 11th in 15 team field at West Delaware

MANCHESTER — Fairfield wrestling was in action on Saturday at West Delaware High School for the Bob Murphy Varsity Tournament.
It was a stacked field featuring 15 other competitors, including the likes of Indianola, Iowa-Grant/Highland, West Delaware, Anamosa and Benton.
In the final team standings, Fairfield finished 11th overall with 59 total points.
Indianola took the tournament crown with 254 points. Iowa-Grant/Highland notched a second-place finish with 207 points, followed by host West Delaware in third with 197 points.
The Trojans highest finisher on the day was none other than Cael McCabe at 113. McCabe received a first-round bye and followed up with a fall (48 seconds) and major decision victory (8-0) over Hunter Rave of West Delaware and Hudson Welton of Anamosa respectively.
In the first-place match, McCabe came up just short to Mac Crosson of Indianola by a narrow decision, 1-0.
The next two highest finishers were Julian Pumphrey at 132 and Dain Burkhart at 175. Both were sixth-place finishers in their weight class.
Aiden Westercamp and Dre Smithburg were the next two highest placer, taking eighth at 138 and 215 respectively.
Zandrik Allison (150) and Logan Johnson (Hwt) did not place, but scored four team points each.
Calvin McClain (165) and Brody Lyons (190) both secured one points for the Trojans and Brandon Brinkschroeder competed at heavy weight for the Trojans as well.
