Fairfield wrestling splits at home triangular

FAIRFIELD - The Fairfield wrestling team was at home for the first time all season on Tuesday when it hosted a triangular with Chariton and Bondurant-Farrar. The Trojans topped Chargers 54-24, but fell to BF, 55-18.

Fairfield had a strong start against Chariton, winning six of the first seven matches, with the only other match being a double forfeit. In that stretch, Payton Cline had a first-period pin in the 152-pound match, and Blake Sobaski picked up a 25-second pin at 170 pounds.

The Chargers fought back to win four of the next five matches, but Fairfield won the last two by forfeit and finished up a 30-point win.

The Trojans had a much slower start against Bondurant-Farrar. Fairfield lost six of the first seven matches and won just three matches total, all pins.

Cohyn Roach won by pinfall at 138 pounds in the Trojans' loss to Bondurant-Farrar. Theodore Metcalf won by pinfall at 182 pounds, and Cesar Smithburg picked up a pin at 285 pounds.

Fairfield will be back in action on Thursday night in Keokuk for the Trojans' second Southeast Conference dual of the year.
