WATERLOO — Fairfield’s Ruimin Luo ended his year on the big stage at the Class 1A State Singles tournament in Waterloo. Luo went 3-2 in the tournament and wound up finishing sixth place overall.
Luo was 1-1 on the first day, picking up an opening-round win over Audubon’s Isaac Jackson in the process. Luo knocked off Jackson 6-2 and 6-1 to move onto the quarterfinals.
Luo’s championship chances were cut short after losing a tiebreaker to Columbus Catholic’s Parker Stroh. Stroh stormed back to beat Luo 3-6, 6-2, 1-0(3).
Luo still had the chance to wind up in fifth on Day 2, and he did start things out right with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win over Clear Lake’s Leif Lundberg. Luo then swept Easton Lubarski of Bishop Heelan, winning 6-0, 6-0 to set up the fifth-place match.
In the fifth-place match, Luo fell short against Tyler Grote of Sergreant Bluff-Luton. Grote knocked off Luo 6-3, 6-0 to end the 2025 boys tennis season.
