Fedler wins, Mid-Prairie takes team title
Mt. Pleasant freshman shows out in first race, Golden Hawks look dominant

WILLIAMSBURG — Both the Mt. Pleasant and Mid-Prairie cross-country teams ran at the Williamsburg Invitational on Tuesday night, and the girls race saw both Union area squads rake in a first place finish.
It was the first high school race for promising Mt. Pleasant freshman Avery Fedler, who made her mark on the area by beating out a tough field to take first place overall, crossing the tape in 19 minutes, 7 seconds.
Fedler, the 2024 Southeast Conference middle school champion, beat out a hoard of Mid-Prairie runners to win the race by 15 seconds.
Mt. Pleasant finished sixth as a team, scoring 185 points. The Panthers had two runners in the Top-15, as Quintrie Lee crossed the tape in 11th, running a 21:19.5.
Nelle Peterson finished 36th to become the third Panther across. Molly Baker was 69th, and Summer Winget finished 84th.
The team championship on the girls’ side wasn’t in doubt for a second, as Mid-Prairie scored 29 points to dominate the meet by 48, over second place PCM.
It was the usual suspects filling the Top-10 for Mid-Prairie. Brooklyn Stutzman finished second, in 19:22.1. Rachel Hostetler was third, in 19:31.2. Kendal Landstrum finished fourth, in 19:38.3., and Tessa Brokaw was seventh, in 20:28.4.
Also finishing in the Top-15 for Mid-Prairie was 13th-place finisher Rebekah Wallington. Hannah Rodgers finished 19th, and Kyrie Poll took 25th.
On the boys’ side, Mid-Prairie finished eighth, with 231 points, while Mt. Pleasant took ninth, with 243.
Mid-Prairie’s Max Swartzentruber was the best area finisher, taking ninth, in 17:28.3.
Reece Waters was 34th for the Golden Hawks. Ben Lothamer was 61st. Archie Damschen finished 65th. Tyson Huber took 68th. Jonathon Pickard was 70th, and Cayce Damschen finished 80th.
Mt. Pleasant’s top finisher was Silas Hulett, who took 10th-place, in 17:49.6.
The next Panther down the list was Ben Leishman, who finished 48th. Clark Peterson was 58th. Payton Wilson took 64th. Anthony Krzyzanowski was 67th. Max Heater took 75th, and Lucas Hurd crossed in 84th.
