FFA chapters across the country celebrated National FFA week Feb. 18-22 and Fairfield High School has had a tradition for a long time of holding a pancake breakfast the Friday morning of the week each year.
'We do a lot of fundraisers and traveling and we just want to be able to give back to our teachers who help us all the time and the family and community supporters who help us make what we do possible throughout the yea,” said Courtney Burkhalter, the Ag teacher and FFA advisor at FHS.
Monday the group had contests for student leadership and themed dress up days the rest of the week.
'Agriculture has changed a lot over the years and it isn't just farm kids anymore,” said Burkhalter. 'We have students who enjoy working with plants and study horticulture or like working on machines and study mechanics and our animal sciences classes are also very popular and they are all very important parts of our economy and are all apart of agriculture.”
In 1969, females were allowed to join and since then officers as a whole across the nation are usually atleast 50-percent female according to Burkhalter.
'It doesn't really matter what your interests are, you can find something in agriculture that will interest you.”
