FHS just misses home dual victory
In their first dual meet of the season ? and first time swimming at home ? Tuesday, Fairfield swimmers took Keokuk to the final event of the evening before narrowly falling 92-89.
?The meet was very close and the girls stepped up to the challenge,? said head coach Susie Steinbeck. ?Many swam events that they had not before to give us a chance to win, and it came down the the very last event.?

Heading into the winner take all final event, Keokuk held a 84-83 advantage and kept themselves on top with a winning time of 4:19.28. Fairfield took second and third place, but fell just short in the final team standings.
After sweeping the three diving places to begin the meet headed by freshman Jaci Bell?s score of 161.05 that placed her first, the Trojans also got off to a fast start in the water with a win in the 200-medley relay by 0.01 seconds. Fairfield?s Rachel Swanson, who went on to win both the 50 and 100-freestyle events, anchored the final 50 meters to secure the win.
Makenzie Kauffman also claimed first-place points for Fairfield in the 100-backstroke (1:07.28) while Olivia Hunt?s time of 1:11.47 in the 100-butterfly put her in second. The 200-freestyle relay team of Hunt, Kauffman, Allison Delker and Swanson also teamed up for second-place in the 200-freestyle relay.
