Corbin Harwood and Daniel Schwarz were part of a 3-way tie to win the high jump and Michael Smithburg placed third in the shot put for Fairfield at the Central Indoor in Pella Friday night.
Harwood and Schwarz both cleared 6-feet, 0-inches, along with Davenport Central?s Scott Hansmeier, to best the rest of the field by four inches.
Smithburg recorded a best throw of 46-feet, 3.5-inches, but fell behind two Mount Pleasant throwers who he should see plenty of this spring.
A busy slate in store for the rest of the night for the Trojans as Harwood also had a good showing in the 55-meter hurdles. The junior ran the sixth-fastest time of 8.13 in the preliminaries, but ran into trouble and dropped to 16th with a time of 9.35 in the finals.
Travis Schombert recorded another good finish for Fairfield as he placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.68. Vincent Horras and Zach Vivier were two seconds back and finished 18th and 19th, respectively.
14 different Trojans ran the 55-meter dash led by Zach Simpson?s 14th-place time of 6.99. Simpson qualified 12th in 6.67.
Fairfield will begin the outdoor season Thursday at Washington, but figure to be short-handed because of spring break.
