NEW LONDON — No. 5 New London had no trouble in their home opener against Moravia on Friday night.
The Tigers blew past Moravia 71-12 for their second-straight blowout win to start the season.
The Mohawks were in it after one period. New London had two touchdown runs by Shae Summerfield in the first period, and a 51-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Streeter to Blaise Porter, but the Tiger lead was one possession at the first buzzer, 20-12.
New London busted it open in the second quarter. Summerfield ran for three-straight touchdowns to begin the period and Gabe Carter had a touchdown catch that made it 50-12 Tigers after the extra point, which is where it was at halftime. The Tigers put up three more touchdowns in the second half.
Summerfield finished the game with 266 yards rushing and six touchdowns. Markell Luckett had 63 yards and a score on the ground.
Ethan Streeter was 2-7 for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Blaize Porter was the leading receiver, catching one pass for a 51 yard score.
The New London defense forced three turnovers. Porter had two interceptions and Cameron Raines had one fumble recovery.
New London (2-0) will travel to WACO this week to play the Warriors in their homecoming game.
