First girls basketball rankings released

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released its first high school basketball rankings of the season last week. The Union area does not have a team in the initial rankings.

Johnston starts this season at No. 1 in Class 5A. Dallas Center-Grimes begins the year at the top of Class 4A. Estherville Lincoln Central begins the season atop Class 3A. Dike-New Hartford is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, and North Linn leads the Class 1A poll.
