It was a busy night at the Hawk Relays at Mid-Prairie High School, as 21 different teams competed at the co-ed meet.
When the dust settled, there were many top finishes for the four area schools that were represented at the meet.
On the girls? side of the contest, Mid-Prairie tied for first among the six teams competing, with Highland taking fourth, IMS taking fifth and Columbus finishing in sixth.
On the boys? side, Mid-Prairie took sixth in the 15-team meet, with Highland earning ninth place, Columbus taking 10th, Washington finishing in 13th and IMS taking 15th.
Washington
The Demons went to the meet and notched eight team points in Wellman, the bulk of which came from junior Caleb Bex.
Bex took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, posting a time of 16.0 seconds, finishing a second behind Oskaloosa?s Austin Reed, who won the meet title.
?Caleb is running very consistent,? Washington boys? track coach Steve Roth said. ?He?s right around 15.8, 15.9 or 16, and he?s being consistent. He ran a nice race and got out well. He didn?t hit a hurdle and is getting better and better. He?s going to have to because our district is tough.?
Demon senior Jack Giardino also posted a strong showing for the Demons, using a run of 11.75 seconds to claim fifth in the 100-meter dash.
?Jack isn?t running the times he wants to, but it?s his third 100 of the year,? Roth said. ?He just needs to run a little more.?
In the shuttle hurdle relay, the Demons went with their younger runners, and came away with a strong finish, taking sixth in the meet with a team of Cade Hennigan, Lincoln Kleese, Chase McDole and Ben Schiefer.
?With three freshman on that team and one sophomore, they had good form,? Roth said. ?Cade Hennigan got us out really well, then Lincoln Kleese had a tough time on the first hurdle, but got it back together. Ben finished it up very strong. I?m proud of the way they ran. The more I get to run them, the more confident they get.?
The Demons? 4x200-meter relay team of Ethan Hansen, Bryce Rickey, Tanner Murphy and Jose Tapia combined for a 1:38.25 to take sixth in the meet.
The Demons will be sending several events to Winfield-Mt. Union on Thursday night, as they look to post final times before the Drake Relays cutoff date at midnight.
