The Iowa Print Sportswriters Association released its All-State football teams on Tuesday, and Henry County had quite a few names on the Class 8-Man list.
Reigning state champion New London had four players named to the squad, including the first team captain, and WACO chimed in with one honoree.
Keontae Luckett was named captain of the squad, giving him the title as top player in eight-man football in 2018. The senior running back was second in the class in total yards (rushing plus receiving) with 1,945. He had 1,598 yards and 26 touchdowns on the ground and caught 25 passes for 347 yards and three scores.
Gavin Holmes, the leading tackler for New London, earned a first team selection at defensive line. The junior had 93 tackles on the year, including 11 solo tackles for a loss. He had three sacks on the year and recovered two fumbles.
WACO's Colton Horak was named to the first team as a defensive back. Horak had a team-leading 88.5 tackles and seven interceptions, including a pick-six. The senior also had 1,190 yards rushing, 624 yards receiving and 27 total touchdowns on offense.
Isaac McSorley was named second-team quarterback. The senior had a fantastic year, completing 65.5 percent of his passes and threw for 1,612 yards and 26 touchdowns, while only throwing seven interceptions. He was also second on the team with 962 rushing yards and 23 scores.
The Tigers got a third team selection on special teams. Roberto Carrillo, a senior, was named the third-team kicker.
Carrillo made 67 of 78 extra points this year, and went 3-5 on field goals with a long of 25. On 115 kickoff attemps, Carrillo had 69 touchbacks.
