Five Huskies earn first team

It was a tough end to the season for the Highland softball team, but a strong year ended with numerous postseason recognitions.
Five Huskies earned All-Southeast Iowa Super Conference first-team honors, with three earning unanimous selections.
Senior pitcher Katie Springer, junior third-baseman Cheyann Adamson and sophomore centerfielder Kelsey Hora were all unanimous selections to the first team, while senior catcher Courtnee Hahn and senior first baseman Morgan Craig also earned first-team recognition.
Springer had a stellar year in the circle for Highland, posting a record of 21-5 in 25 starts this season. She finished the year with a 1.13 ERA, and a 0.77 WHIP, while striking out 165 batters in 155 innings.
Adamson was consistent this season for the Huskies, batting .413 with an on-base percentage of .465, and finished second on the team with 22 RBIs, leading the team with eight doubles and four triples on the year.
Hora led the team with a .505 batting average and .557 on-base percentage, scoring a team-high 43 runs and stealing 48 bases in 50 attempts.
Hahn finished the season with a team-high 22 walks, giving her an on-base percentage of .536, as she drove in 20 runs, scoring 32 of her own. She stole 11 bases and had two homeruns on the year for the Huskies.
Craig was strong for the Huskies this season, scoring 21 runs, driving in 12 RBIs and posting an on-base percentage of .365.
Highland had three athletes earn second-team All-Conference honors with Bridget Murphy, Bailey Walsh and Kaytlin Chalupa each being honored.
Murphy batted .284 on the season, leading the team with 16 sacrifices on the season, posting 15 RBIs, and scoring 17 runs on the season.
Walsh led the team with 26 RBIs, batting .313 on the season. She had one of Highland?s four homeruns on the season, and slugged .425.
Chalupa batted .333 on the season with 14 RBIs and 18 runs scored, while stealing 10 bases on the season.
Brooke Kreiss and Ali Stokes were also honored for the Huskies as honorable mention selections.
Kreiss had 13 runs batted in, finishing the season with an on-base percentage of .321, while posting a fielding percentage of .950.
As an eighth-grader, Stokes finished the year with an on-base percentage of .271, picking up six stolen bases for the Huskies and scoring seven runs.
