FMS netters dominate Washington
Both the seventh- and eighth-grade Fairfield Middle School volleyball teams swept rival Washington in their respective season openers Tuesday.
The two grades finished the day claiming four match wins apiece.

Both the seventh- and eighth-grade Fairfield Middle School volleyball teams swept rival Washington in their respective season openers Tuesday.
The two grades finished the day claiming four match wins apiece.
In seventh-grade action, the Trojan ?A? team topped Washington 21-10, 15-21, 15-3. Ashley Pool led the team in setting, had 10 aces and two attacks, while Ashtyn Drish dominated with seven attack attempts. Kristin Burnstedt tallied four kills.
The ?B? team won in two sets (21-14, 21-18). Amanda Carminhato and Peyton Manley tallied six serve attempts apiece to lead the Trojans. Macy Holderbaum led the team in defensive passing.
Washington won the first set in the ?C? game, but Fairfield rallied for a 20-22, 21-16, 15-4 victory. Shanti Williams came out strong defensively to accompany Madison Osborn?s great serving ability and two attacks.
The ?D? team kept the winning streak going with a 21-8, 21-11 victory. Shania Storto totaled six aces on a perfect day serving, while Kai-Li Diyaljee led the team on defense.
In eighth-grade action, the ?A? team easily won 21-12, 21-8. Brynna Bowman racked up eight service points and Haley Beard finished with three kills.
Sarah Swanson tallied 23 passes to lead the ?B? team to a 21-17, 21-17 win over Washington. Brooke McLain scored nine points via her serve.
The ?C? team won 21-19, 21-8, with Caytlyn Nystrom leading the way with 10 serves.
Fairfield?s ?D? team capped the day with a two-set win of its own. Emmy Bowman blasted six aces and Lauren Ward had four to lead Fairfield to a 21-16, 21-14 win.
Next up for the Trojan seventh-graders is a home game against Ottumwa Thursday. The eighth-graders will be at Ottumwa.
