Both of the area’s ranked high school football teams took a minor step back in the newest Gazette football rankings. Both New London and Sigourney-Keota slid one spot to No. 8 in their respective classes.
New London had a bye week in Week 2, giving them one more week of rest ahead of a major showdown with Winfield-Mount Union. Sigourney-Keota blasted Mid-Prairie 42-12.
In both cases, the Union area team was hopped over by the squad behind them in last week’s rankings. In Class 8-Player, New London was leapfrogged by Newell-Fonda. In Class 1A, Sigourney-Keota was jumped by Pella Christian.
Three Union area teams can be found in the “others receiving votes,” lists. Cardinal scooped up three votes in Class 1A. WMU had two votes in Class 8-Player, and WACO was one spot behind WMU with one vote in the 8-Player rankings.
