Football rankings: Winfield-Mt. Union still No. 2, Sigourney-Keota No. 8
Wolves stay put in week five 8-Player poll, Cobras move up two spots in 1A

Another Friday has past which means another week of Iowa high school football is now complete.
Along with that comes yet another list of The Gazette’s 2023 Iowa high school football rankings.
Heading into week five, the poll is pretty similar to last weeks.
Once again, the Union area is represented by two squads inside the top 10 of their perspective rankings. One team sits just outside the top 10, as the next one in.
Featuring in the poll this week is Winfield-Mt. Union, who comes in at No. 2 in the 8-Player list.
The Wolves stay put in week five, as they have been slotted in the second position for nearly the whole season.
Sigourney-Keota made a jump in the rankings this time around.
The Cobras reentered the rankings last week, coming in at No. 10. After a dominating victory on Friday night, the Cobras now hold the No. 8 ranking in Class 1A.
WACO does not hold a top 10 rankings this week, but the Warriors are the first team just outside the rankings. WACO received five votes, while 10th overall Ar-We-Va has six.
WMU followed up a week three win over WACO with another impressive victory over Montezuma on Saturday.
The Wolves dominated the Braves 70-20 and led 42-0 at the half on their way to a 4-0 start to the season.
WMU will look to make it 5-0 against English Valleys on Friday. It’s the Wolves homecoming.
Sigourney-Keota has won three straight after falling in its season opener to PCM Monroe.
The Cobras’ latest victory came against Cardinal on Friday. Sigourney-Keota downed the Comets 67-0.
They will be back at it on Friday against Pleasantville on the road.
WACO dropped out of the rankings after a tough loss to WMU two weeks ago. The Warriors rebounded Friday with a lopsided victory over HLV, 59-12.
This week, WACO will host Easton Valley as it looks to keep the winning ways.
