Football roundup: Columbus looks to keep winning

Cardinal (1-5) at Pella Christian (4-2)
Cardinal will hope to grab its second win of the season on Friday night with a victory over Pella Christian.
The Comets picked up their first win of the year two weeks ago against Colfax-Mingo, but the Comets fell last week to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 52-6.
Pella Christian comes in off its second loss of 2023, a 42-15 defeat at the hands of Sigourney-Keota.
Pella Christian has won the last two matchups.
Columbus (4-2) at Van Buren County (3-3)
Columbus has won three in a row since its last loss to Lisbon, 34-28.
The Wildcats will look to make it four in a row against Van Buren County on Friday.
Meanwhile, VBC had been on a bit of a hot streak winning three straight, until a 46-7 defeat last week against Danville.
The two squads are 2-2 in all time matchup, with the Warriors winning the latest in 2019, 18-12.
Pekin (4-2) at Wapello (1-5)
Pekin hopes to get back-to-back wins on Friday will a victory over Wapello.
The Panthers downed Highland last week 56-0, ending a two-game slide.
Wapello comes in on a three-game losing streak. They were defeated by Lisbon last week 68-0.
Highland (0-6) at Louisa-Muscatine (0-6)
Highland or Louisa-Muscatine will pick up its first victory of the season on Friday when the two square off.
The Huskies fell to Pekin last week 56-0, while the Falcons enter off a loss to Columbus 70-14.
Mid-Prairie (2-4) at Central Lee (3-3)
Mid-Prairie and Central Lee will both hope to get back in the win column this week.
The Golden Hawks were winner of two, before a 38-7 loss to Mediapolis last week.
Central Lee is currently on a three game slide, losing to West Burlington last week 27-0.
Sigourney-Keota (5-1) at Colfax-Mingo (1-5)
Sigourney-Keota is one of the hottest teams in the area right now.
The Cobras are currently on a five game win streak since losing their season opener.
They downed Pella Christian a week ago 42-15.
Colfax-Mingo enters the contest off a loss to Pleasantville 39-0.
Winfield-Mt. Union (6-0) vs. Mormon Trail (1-5)
Winfield-Mt. Union will look to keep up its No. 2 rating this week with a matchup against Mormon Trail.
So far no one has been able to hang with the Wolves and they most recently downed Iowa Valley 76-14.
Mormon Trail has lost five in a row, most recently East Union 42-0.
WACO (5-1) vs. English Valleys (2-4)
WACO has been playing some great football as of late.
Since their first loss of the season against Winfield-Mt. Union, the Warriors have picked up three straight wins, downing New London a week ago 67-8.
English Valleys lost to Colo-Nesco last week 46-0. That marked three straight losses for the Bears.
New London (1-5) vs. Moravia (6-1)
New London host a stout Moravia squad this Friday.
The Tigers suffered a 67-8 loss to WACO last week after defeating HLV the week prior.
Moravia hasn't lost since week one. The Mohawks downed Melcher-Dallas 80-0 last week.
