Football roundup: New London, Cardinal scoop 1st wins
Sigourney-Keota wins OT thriller; WMU stays undefeated

This week’s small school football action was highlighted by a couple of victories from previously winless teams New London and Cardinal, and a wild win from Sigourney-Keota.
NEW LONDON 36, HLV 28
The Tigers rallied from an early 14-0 deficit to beat HLV 36-28. The Tigers scored 36-straight points after the initial 14-point deficit.
New London was winless coming into the game, and the Tigers were coming off a forfeit last week.
Michael Raines had two touchdowns in the win, one rushing and one receiving.
Cardinal 18, Colfax-Mingo 13
The Comets won their first game of the year in a thriller in Eldon.
Cardinal trailed 7-0 early but brought the lead to 7-6 with a 56-yard touchdown run. Cardinal led 12-7 at halftime, and stretched it to 18-7 early in the fourth.
In all, Cardinal rushed for 238 yards and two touchdowns, and passed for 50 yards and a score.
WACO 56, Easton Valley 14
The Warriors scored 37 points in the first quarter of another blowout win in Wayland.
Louden Huisenga rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Reece Oswald had three touchdowns total, one on a 31-yard reception, and two on the ground.
No. 2 (8-Player) Winfield-Mount Union 76, English Valleys 6
The Wolevs scored 46 points in the first quarter, and held a 74-0 lead after three quarters of a Homecoming victory.
Cam Buffington rushed for 113 yards and two scores in the win. Cole Milke ran for 42 yards and three touchdowns. Milks, Carter Loyd and Abram Edwards all caught passes, and Milks and Edwards both grabbed a receiving touchdown.
No. 8 (1A) Sigourney-Keota 31, Pleasantville 24 (OT)
The Cobras had to claw back from an 18-7 halftime deficit to send the game into overtime. After scoring on their possession, Pleasantville had two huge penalties on the same play to back the Trojans up.
Kale Clarahan rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown. Jake Moore found the end zone twice on the ground.
Mid-Prairie 42, Davis County 7
The Golden Haks came into Bloomfield and rolled past the Mustangs, rushing for 267 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
Hudson Ehrenfelt went for 153 yards and a score. Landry Gingerich went for 64 yards and a touchdown, and quarterback Brady Weber rushed for one and threw one to Ehrenfelt.
Dylan Henry had the defensive play of the game in this one, picking off a pass and taking it 74 yards back to the end zone.
Van Buren County 41, Louisa-Muscatine 6
The Warriors moved to 3-2 on the year with their third-straight win of the season. It was Van Buren County’s second week in a row at 40 points or above.
No. 7 (Class A) Lisbon 17, Pekin 7
Pekin nearly pulled off a huge upset at home, as the Panthers had the Lions in trouble, trailing just 10-7 after three quarters.
Lisbon shut out Pekin for the entirety of the second half, and put the nail in the coffin with a score in the fourth quarter.
Pekin’s Will Adam threw for 118 yards and ran for 74 yards and a score. Deklan Hampton caught four passes for 79 yards.
Columbus 55, Highland 0
Columbus’ offense stayed red hot with another 50-plus point performance, this time in Riverside.
The Wildcats were once again dominant in the ground game, running for 430 yards and seven touchdowns. Riley Kaalberg went for 255 yards and three scores, and Kaden Amigon rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns.
