It was the last regular season game of the year for most of the Union area’s teams, as Classes 8-Player, A, 1A and 2A will begin the playoff stretch next weekend. Friday night’s games gave an idea of just what those playoffs might look like.
Winfield-Mount Union 71, English Valleys 8
The Wolves needed to win by 17 points or more to secure a spot in next week’s Class 8-Player playoffs, and they did that and more, thrashing English Valleys on the road.
Cam Buffington ran the ball 20 times for a ridiculous 266 yards and eight touchdowns. Eli Miller knotched an interception and a fumble recovery to lead the defense.
No. 2 WACO 42, Tri-County 10
The unbeaten Warriors cruised to victory on the road, knocking off Tri-County by 32 points. The Warriors held a 36-0 lead at halftime.
WACO spread the love, only giving star running back Simeon Reichenbach five carries all game. Louden Huisenga ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense. Kohl Hildebrand had one fumble recovery.
New London 72, HLV 14
New London closed out its season with another blowout win, crushing the Warriors on the road.
New London’s offense ran for 345 yards and seven touchdowns. Boden Pickle led the way with 107 yards and two scores.
Pekin 35, Highland 8
Pekin sophomore Will Adam gashed the Huskies’ defense for 202 yards and two scores on just seven carries as Pekin ended the year with a win. Highland finished the year without a victory.
Sigourney-Keota 69, Van Buren County 20
The Cobras already had a district title in their hands heading into Friday night, but a dominant win at Van Buren County helped them end the league schedule unbeaten.
Reid Molyneaux rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cobras. Cole Kindred caught a touchdown pass and rushed for one.
Mid-Prairie 42, Davis County 6
The Golden Hawks wrapped up third place in the district with a shelling of Davis County at home.
Braden Hartley ran over the Mustangs for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Grady Gingerich caught two passes for 73 yards and two scores.
Pleasantville 50, Cardinal 17
The Comets couldn’t hinder a Pleasantville attack that had the Comets down 29-0 at the half. Cardinal scored three times in the second half, but it was too little too late.
