FORT MADISON — Monday was not a good day for the Washington Demons baseball team with two Southeast Conference road losses, 10-3 and 8-4, to the Fort Madison Bloodhounds.
The wins put Fort Madison (16-3 overall) at 10-2 in the league, a game behind Burlington (16-5) at 11-1. Washington (9-7) is third at 6-6 with Fairfield (7-12) in fourth at 5-7, Mt. Pleasant (4-15) at 3-9 and Keokuk (2-17) at 1-11.
A Wilx Witthoft three-run home run in a four-run fourth inning was the Demon highlight of the 8-4 loss. There were six walks issued to Fort Madison, none to Washington. Travis Leyden had a double in each game.
The Demons outhit the home team 9-8 in the 10-3 loss with Jacob Miller and Ethan Patterson knocking out two apiece. Reece Mayer was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in. Two errors and five walks compared to none in either category for the home team was the difference.
