MUSCATINE ? Fairfield will be as well represented at the state swim meet as it has since 2005.
The Trojans qualified four events to next weekend?s state meet, just missing the cut two other times, and finished in sixth place at a stacked regional meet in Muscatine.
Pleasant Valley won the team title with 443 points to edge Bettendorf?s 427.
The Fairfield foursome of Baylee Bowman, Abby McMahon, Jade Greiner and Rachel Swanson have led the squad all season, and Saturday was no different. The quartet will swim both the 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays at the state meet.
It placed third in the 200-medley (1:54.68) and fourth in the 200-freestyle (1:44.93) to squeeze in under the qualifying cut compiled from the six regional sites across the state.
The 200-medley time of 1:54.68 is also an all-time FHS record that was set back in the 2005 season.
Swanson will also be making a return trip to state in her premiere event ? the 50-meter freestyle. Swanson chopped nearly a full second off her seed time in the event to finish in 25.33. The time placed her sixth in Muscatine, but a crowded field has those top six finishers at the regional all in the top 16 of the 24-girl state-meet field.
The freshman Greiner added another qualifying mark for the Trojans with a time of 1:03.06 in the 100-butterfly.
Bowman and McMahon both missed cutoff times in the 100-backstroke and 100-breaststroke, respectively, by less than one second.
Jaci Bell broke her own 1-meter diving school record with an 11-dive score of 290.95 to place seventh.
