Fourth quarter dooms Mt. Pleasant boys

FORT MADISON - The Mt. Pleasant boys basketball team had a late lead and a shot to complete the season-sweep of Fort Madison on Friday, but the Bloodhounds used a 17-point fourth quarter to knock the Panthers off, 53-46.
The Bloodhounds had a fast start. Fort Madison led 11-7 after the first quarter and 25-21 at halftime.
Mt. Pleasant rallied in the third quarter, outscoring Fort Madison 16-11 to take a 37-36 advantage in the third quarter. The Bloodhounds outscored Mt. Pleasant 17-9 in the final eight minutes.
Dewon Trent led the Panthers with 21 points and 13 rebounds. He also blocked three shots on the night.
Sam Jerrel nailed three shots from 3-point land to finish the game with nine points. Brevin Wilson had six points and four blocked shots. Jack Johnson scored four points and dished out five assists, and Chase Wiliamson and Owen Vansickel scored three points each.
The Panthers had beaten the Bloodhoudds 49-29 at home earlier this year. Fort Madison has won three of its next four SEC contests.
Mt. Pleasant is now 5-5 overall and 2-3 in the SEC. Fort Madison is 3-2 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
The Panthers will be at home tonight where they will host Cedar Rapids Washington in a nonconference game.
