Fourth-ranked Regina blows out Washington
It only took 40 minutes of play for fourth-ranked Iowa City Regina to defeat Washington 14-0 on Tuesday night. The mercy rule brought the non-conference girls? soccer match to a halt at halftime.

It only took 40 minutes of play for fourth-ranked Iowa City Regina to defeat Washington 14-0 on Tuesday night. The mercy rule brought the non-conference girls? soccer match to a halt at halftime.
?They beat us 14-0 in the first half,? Washington head coach Kyle Collins said. ?They?re a great team. They out-played us, out-coached us, out-whatever you want to call it. Our goal was to try to hold them to under 10 goals. And you may get lucky and score a couple of times to make it a good game, but it just didn?t work out.?
Three Regina players notched hat tricks in the contest. Junior Katie Wick and freshmen Jenny Wick and Lauren Ronnfeldt scored three goals apiece for the Regals (9-0). Senior Hanna Stein added a pair of goals, while senior Tori Lust, junior Grace Larew and freshman Kennedy Brown each scored once. Jenny Wick assisted three goals, and Lust and Katie Wick both had a pair of assists.
?They had fast, attacking forwards,? Collins said. ?We were missing a couple of defensive players. Some other people had to step in. They were the better team, and they showed it. We just didn?t step up and play a good game.?
Meanwhile, the Demons (2-9) didn?t get many shots on the Regals? goal. Regina goalkeeper Megan Fackler made one save in 40 minutes of play.
?She touched it twice,? Collins said of Regina?s goalie. ?We had our chances, but it didn?t go well.?
Even though the Regals got 14 goals past Washington goalkeeper Stephanie Evans, Collins was pleased with the play of his sophomore goalie.
?You let 14 through, that?s a lot, but I think she saved that many times, too,? he said. ?At one point, she went to block the ball, dove way out to her right, and fell on the ground on her hand. She got up holding her hand, but when they took another shot, she stuck her other arm out and blocked it. She made a couple of saves while she was hurt. She had bent her pinkie all the way back. She was playing her hardest and made some good saves during the game.?
Collins hopes his team can quickly forget about Tuesday?s loss and regroup for tonight?s Southeast Conference match at Fairfield.
?You can?t really hold it with you,? he said. ?You just have to get over it and move on to the next game.?
