Freshman squad wins weekend tournament
The Fairfield freshman volleyball team placed first overall on its home court Saturday at the Fairfield Ninth Grade Volleyball Tournament.
The Trojans swept all four matches, including wins over Van Buren (25-4, 25-5), Columbus Junction (25-21, 25-12), Ottumwa (25-23, 25-23) and Central Lee (25-14, 25-20).

The Fairfield freshman volleyball team placed first overall on its home court Saturday at the Fairfield Ninth Grade Volleyball Tournament.
The Trojans swept all four matches, including wins over Van Buren (25-4, 25-5), Columbus Junction (25-21, 25-12), Ottumwa (25-23, 25-23) and Central Lee (25-14, 25-20).
Fairfield?s Madison Roberts blasted 30 kills and had two blocks and seven ace serves in the tournament. Karly Williams was 39-of-42 serving with 19 aces, and she tallied 14 kills and 13 digs. Hannah Morgan came up with two big blocks and scored with three aces. Sabryna Gilmore had one block and two kills, and Jolea Burkhart added one ace and was 35-of-45 on serve receive. Alexis Ring set the victories up for the Trojans with 45 assists.
Also for the Trojans, Abby Shaner was 5-of-8 on attacks, Carrigan Haile was 5-of-7 attacking with one kill, and both Jamie Nelson and Paris Bickham had one kill each. Kayla Wald had eight digs and was 5-of-6 on serve receive.
Fairfield?s ninth-graders will be back in action today at Mount Pleasant.
