Freshmen pick up two wins
The Fairfield freshman softball team managed to pick up two wins while also wrapping up a rain-suspended game Wednesday night vs. Mount Pleasant.
The Trojans held on for a 5-3 win in the postponed game. The home team also won game one 9-3 before dropping the second by a 4-3 score.

The Fairfield freshman softball team managed to pick up two wins while also wrapping up a rain-suspended game Wednesday night vs. Mount Pleasant.
The Trojans held on for a 5-3 win in the postponed game. The home team also won game one 9-3 before dropping the second by a 4-3 score.
In the suspended game, the Trojans resumed play with a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning. Mount Pleasant started the frame with a runner on third base and one out, but Fairfield pitcher Shelby Heston got the final two outs to preserve the win. Heston fanned the first batter for the second out, then cleanly fielded a ground ball for the inning?s third out.
Heston went all five innings and tallied 12 strikeouts while walking three. She allowed the three runs on just one hit.
At the plate, Heston and Aspen Bowman both smacked a double. Lindsey Repp stole two bases and Kylee Marlay had a stolen base and scored twice. Caytlyn Nystrom, Brooke McLain, Sarah Swanson and Kelly Hovorka all hit one single.
After finishing the suspended game, the Trojans and Mount Pleasant picked up their regularly scheduled contest.
Mikaela Amendt pitched five innings of three-run ball to lift the Trojans in the first game. Amendt struck out eight and walked two. She also gave up five hits.
Taylor Marlay led the Trojans on the base paths with three steals and two runs scored, while Corynn Klehm swiped two bases. Nystrom had a single, stolen base and two runs scored, and Hovorka knocked in two runs. Amendt, Swanson, Amber Samuelson and McLain each had one base knock.
In the final game of the evening, the 4-3 loss for Fairfield, Amendt and Delaney Neil had one RBI each. Heston had a single and a stolen base, and Repp finished with a steal and run scored. RaeAnn McClaran, Kailey Kaska and Olivia Hammel had one single each.
Neil pitched the first three innings and allowed two runs on four hits. She walked one and fanned two. Heston pitched two innings of relief, allowing two runs on two walks. Heston struck out three Panthers.
Fairfield JV Orange is scheduled to play Washington at home Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m.
