It was a good Friday night for the Washington County area, as the schools in the coverage area went 5-1 on the night.
The only loss was from Mid-Prairie, who fell to Washington, in the only head-to-head matchup among area schools.
All the other schools in the area (Highland, WACO, Sigourney-Keota and Columbus) picked up victories, meaning each school will finish the year with at least one victory, with hopefully more to come.
A quick recap of the weekend that was is listed below.
Highland 50 ? West Liberty 14
The Highland football team used another big offensive game to improve to 2-0 on the season as the Huskies prepare to enter district play.
Senior quarterback Jake Wood threw for 126 yards and three scores in the Highland victory, while Billy Burton hauled in two of those touchdown passes.
Meanwhile, on the ground, sophomore running back Trey Lasek averaged 8 yards per carry, while picking up 104 total rushing yards and a score.
Defensively, Burton led the team with 14.5 tackles and two interceptions.
The Huskies will resume action on Friday night at home, when they take on Sigourney-Keota.
Sigourney-Keota 48 ? EBF 3
The defense shined for the Cobras in their second win of the season, holding the Rockets to three points on Friday night.
The win improves Sigourney-Keota to 2-0 on the year, as the Cobras forced four turnovers on the night.
