Fritz wraps up summer swim season with record-breaking meets

INDIANAPOLIS ? Fairfield?s Samantha Fritz wrapped up the summer long course swimming season the last two weekends with big performances. She swam the Iowa Summer Long course Championship meet in Iowa City July 28-31 and the 2011 Central Zone Championship Meet in Indianapolis Aug. 5-7.

She competed in nine individual events ? placing first in six ? and won all four of her relay events. She finished first in High Points for the 11-12 girls division.

Fritz also broke four Iowa state records in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly and the 400-meter IM and was a leg on three new Iowa state records in relays 200 and 400-meter medley relays and the 200-meter freestyle relay.

She also competed for the state of Iowa at the 2011 Central Zone Championship Meet held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis where she swam another six individual events and four relays. 950 swimmers from Illinois, Iowa, Lake Erie, Michigan and Ohio competed in the event.

Fritz?s top finishes were first place in the 100-meter butterfly and second in the 100-meter freestyle on her way to placing third in high points for the state of Iowa. She also qualified three events ? 50 and 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly ? for the 2012 Speedo Sectional Meet.

She is currently is ranked eighth in the nation for 12 year old girls in the 100-meter freestyle and 17th in both the 50-freestyle and 100-meter butterfly and finished ranked first for the state of Iowa in the 11-12 girls division. She swims for the University of Iowa Recreation Service Iowa Flyers swim team in Iowa City.
