A strong senior season closed out a stellar career for Iowa Mennonite senior Eli Gingerich.
That year saw him recognized among the best in Class 1A, earning second-team All-State honors from the Iowa Newspaper Association.
The IMS senior averaged 17.6 points per game this season, and tied for the team lead in rebounds, averaging 4.5 per game.
Gingerich?s vision on the court is what helped him stand out, however, as he dished out 144 assists (six per game) this year, to go with 77 steals (3.2 per game) and 14 blocks. His scoring, steals and assists were all second in the conference.
Gingerich helped Iowa Mennonite to a 12-11 record this year, with nine of those 11 losses coming by nine points or less.
Eli also earned sub-state honors for his efforts in the postseason tournament, which saw IMS fall to Lone Tree.
Sub-state lists were also released today, with Washington senior Derek Anding earning a spot on the Class 3A list.
Anding averaged 19.1 points per game to lead the Southeast Conference boys? basketball team, earning a first-team All-SEC selection in his final campaign as a Demon.
Anding was the only Demon to earn first-team honors, and supplemented his scoring by hitting a conference-high 52 3-pointers and recording a field-goal percentage of 41.4 percent, to go with four rebounds and 1.2 steals and assists per game.
He scored 30 points in the district game against Clear Creek-Amana, to help earn the spot on the sub-state team.
In Class 1A, Keota?s Zach Mousel also earned recognition for his efforts.
Mousel finished the year with a team-best 12.3 points per game and dished out another team-best 106 assists (4.4 assists per game), to go with 16 blocked shots, 41 steals and two rebounds per game.
Mousel helped lead the Eagles to a 17-7 record this season, and claimed a SICL East division title.
In three playoff games, Mousel averaged 10 points per game and more than five assists per game, as the Eagles saw their season end in a district final.
