WELLMAN - Kayden Reinier followed up last week's school-record performance of 316 yards on 12 carries with 150 yards on nine carries in Friday's 55-0 lambasting of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont by Mid-Prairie in a Class 2A District 7 football game.
Keegan Gingerich jump-started the Golden Hawks victory when he returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for a 7-0 lead.
'Keegan's return set the tone for our team,” Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh said.
It was the second shutout in a row after the 49-0 win over Central Lee, which had negative 15 yards rushing and 39 total. EBF had minus 22 on the ground and negative 9 yrds total.
'Our defense played lights out again,” Cavanagh said. 'I really thought our Defensive line was great.”
That line consists of Josh Wallington, Cael Garvey, Michael Kelly, and Ben Meader.
Reinier had five touchdowns last week and added four more against EBF. Teammate Tyler Helmuth had 98 yards on 10 carries and a TD. Garvey scored a TD among his three carries for 32 yards.
Cain Brown led the Golden Hawks receiving with three catches for 39 yards. Will Cavanagh was 3-of-3 passing for 59 yards and a scoring toss to Jackson Pennington of 20 yards. Vinny Bowlin hit 4-of-7 for 43 yards.
Justice Jones was the leading tackler for Mid-Prairie and Brown intercepted a pass.
Mid-Prairie is 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the district while EBF is 1-2, 0-2.
