Senior Hannah Gingerich?s free throw with no time remaining lifted IMS to a thrilling 58-57 win over rival Lone Tree on Friday night.
With the game tied at 57, IMS held for the final shot. When sophomore Hannah Miller?s jumper rattled off the rim, Gingerich crashed the offensive boards. She grabbed the ball and went back up, but was fouled just a fraction of a second before the final buzzer sounded. She was awarded a trip to the free-throw line with no time left on the clock, and with both teams watching from half court, she sank a pressure-packed free throw to give IMS its first win of the season.
?Playing Lone Tree always seems to bring out the best in these girls,? IMS head coach Aaron Gingerich said. ?We are happy that Hannah Gingerich decided to join our team as a senior this season, and I?m not sure I would have wanted anyone else at the line in that situation.?
Junior Olivia Yutzy scored a game-high 21 points to lead IMS (1-3, 1-3 SEISC North). Sophomore Riley Schmieder added 10 points and five steals, and junior Kristin Davis had nine points, five steals, five rebounds and three assists.
Junior Kennedi Warson?s 20 points and eight rebounds led the Lions (3-2, 2-2 SEISC North). Junior Madelyn Flemr added 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals, and senior Maggie Schmidt also had 10 points.
