Girls basketball: Highland nips WMU
Huskies hold on for North Division win

A full day of small school basketball saw big wins out of Highland, Hillcrest Academy and Mid-Prairie.
Highland 44, Winfield-Mount Union 42
The Huskies held off a late WMU rush to get out of a home Southeast Iowa Super Conference North battle with a two-point win.
The Wolves jumped on Highland early, leading 12-6 after one quarter and 27-20 at halftime. Highland took the lead back before the fourth quarter, and didn’t let WMU get the ball back after the Wolves cut it down to two points in the final five seconds.
Kamryn Fink finished the night with 11 points to lead Highland, while also pulling down 12 rebounds. Mackenzie Davis put up nine points and 13 rebounds. Emersyn Schultz scored nine points, and Katelyn Thomann filled the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists.
Hillcrest Academy 52, Wapello 40
Hillcrest clawed back from a 19-16 halftime deficit to knock off Wapello by 12 points.
The Ravens put up 20 in the third quarter to take a 36-28 lead into the fourth and never looked back, earning their second-straight win in conference play.
Louisa-Muscatine 49, Pekin 37
Pekin held a 33-20 led at halftime but scored just four points in the final two quarters as L&M stormed back to steal the victory.
Lone Tree 55, WACO 52
The Warriors saw a 41-31 lead after three periods slip away in the final minutes, as Lone Tree secured a massive North Division win.
The loss for WACO dropped the Warriors to one game below Columbus in the conference standings. Lone Tree is two games back.
Central Lee 63, New London 23
New London was within 20 in the fourth quarter of a tough SEISC South matchup in Donnellson, but Central Lee put up 24 points in the final eight minutes.
Holy Trinity Catholic 51, Van Buren County 40
The Warriors put a scare into Holy Trinity, keeping the game within two possessions after three periods.
HTC led 39-35 to start the fourth and the VBC offense went cold, scoring just five points in the last quarter of play.
Mid-Prairie 65, West Branch 20
The Golden Hawks waxed West Branch at home, using a 44-8 first half to pull out the victory.
Sigourney 68, Keota 44
Keota stuck with Sigourney for the most part, but the Savages pulled away with a 19-8 fourth quarter to hand Keota a South Iowa Cedar League East Division loss.
Centerville 68, Cardinal 25
The Comets continued to struggle in a tough South Central Conference, falling in a league road game against the Redettes.
