Southeast Iowa girls basketball returned to action on Friday and Saturday, here are results from around the area.
WACO 49, New London 21
WACO picked up their first win of the season over New London.
The Tigers kept it close in the first, trailing 12-9. WACO opened the game up in the second with a 26-8 second quarter.
New London never had an answer as WACO followed with a 4-0 third and 7-4 fourth quarter.
WACO is now 1-2 on the season, while New London is 0-5.
Wapello 44, Hillcrest Academy 28
Hillcrest Academy kept the game close after one quarter, leading 11-9.
A slow second and fourth quarter ultimately led to the Ravens defeat. Wapello outscored Hillcrest 9-2 in the second and 17-4 in the fourth.
The Ravens scored 11 in the third to Wapello’s nine.
Hillcrest Academy now moves to 0-4.
Winfield-Mt. Union 56, Highland 29
The Wolves continued their dominance Friday with a 56-29 win over Highland.
Winfield-Mt. Union held the Huskies to single digits in all four quarters, 13-6, 13-9, 22-5, and 9-8.
Bradie Buffington led the Wolves in scoring with 16 points, while also tallying a double-double with 11 rebounds. She also added three blocks.
Keetyn Townsley added 13 points, five rebounds and four assists. Melina Oepping found herself with a double-double too. Oepping had 11 points and 16 points.
For Highland, Dani Laughlin led the way with 11 points. Sarah Burton and Abbi Stransky both added eight points and eight rebounds.
Winfield moves to 4-0 and Highland, 1-2.
Winfield-Mt. Union 53, Van Buren County 26 (Saturday)
Winfield picked up there fifth win of the season against Van Buren County.
The Warriors struggled to slow down Wolves on the offensive end.
Winfield outscored Van Buren 18-6, 15-4, 12-9 and 8-7.
The Wolves are now 5-0, and Van Buren 0-4.
Sigourney 48, Keota 22
Keota moves to 1-4 on the season with the loss to Sigourney.
Mid-Prairie 57, Tipton 20
Mid-Prairie picked up their second win of the season, while holding Tipton to single digits, including zero in the fourth, throughout three quarters.
The Golden Hawks outscored the Tigers 24-7, 23-6 and 6-0 in the fourth. Tipton outscored Mid-Prairie 7-4 in the third.
Maddie Nonnenmann led Mid-Prairie in scoring with 11 points. She also added eight rebounds.
Amara Jones and Landry Pacha both added 10 points and five rebounds. Jones also had five assists.
Mediapolis 51, Pekin 23
Pekin struggled against Mediapolis. The Panthers scored over five points just once in the contest, that being in the third quarter where they outscored Mediapolis 12-11.
On the other hand, the Bulldogs outscored the Panthers 21-5 in the first, 15-4 in the second and 4-2 in the fourth.
Burlington Notre Dame 53, Van Buren County 4
Van Buren County had no answer for Notre Dame on Friday night.
The Warriors were held scoreless in both the first and third quarters.
Notre Dame outscored Van Buren 20-0, 16-3, 13-0 and 4-1.
Zoe Best and Kadence Nusbaum both scored one point a piece for the Warriors.
Louisa-Muscatine 49, Columbus 13
Columbus was held to just one point in the first half against Louisa Muscatine.
The Wildcats didn’t have an answer on the offensive end as the Falcons outscored them 14-1, 17-0, 10-5 and 8-7.
Lily Coil scored five points for Columbus. Sera Vela and Libby White both added three.
Columbus moves to 1-4 on the season.
Holy Trinity Catholic 55, Cardinal 39
Cardinal moves to 1-3 on the season with the loss to Holy Trinity Catholic.
Cardinal 62, Moravia 20 (Saturday)
The Comets bounces back against Moravia. Cardinal started with a big first quarter, 23-6, and never looked back.
The Comets outscored the Mohawks the rest of the contest 16-4, 13-7 and 10-3.
