The final busy weekend of regular season girls basketball took place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Southeast Iowa Super Conference teams battled in the 2024 SEISC Shootout. Keota and Cardinal went toe-to-toe, and Mid-Prairie played a ranked foe.
Iowa City Regina (15-4) 57, Mid-Prairie (9-10) 39
Despite a 13-11 lead after the first quarter, Mid-Prairie couldn’t hold on against the rival Regals.
Morgyn Bender scored 10 points for the Golden Hawks. Callie Huber finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.
Keota (6-12) 33, Cardinal (4-14) 32
Cardinal held a 16-15 lead at halftime, but Keota went up 29-24 after three and held on to knock off the Comets in a Union area battle.
Mediapolis (15-3) 59, Highland (14-6) 17
The Huskies were defeated in the No. 3 game at the SEISC Shootout. Sarah Burton had 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals in the loss to lead the Huskies.
Notre Dame (9-10) 72, WACO (11-9) 59
Notre Dame grabbed another win for the SEISC South in the Shootout. WACO held a 17-14 after one quarter but Notre Dame stormed back to win.
Central Lee (6-13) 52, Pekin (6-13) 43
The Panthers dropped a game at Central Lee in the SEISC Shootout.
Anna Hadley had a monster game in the loss, going for 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Alex Parsons finished the night with 17 points, including three 3-pointers.
Wapello (7-15) 58, Van Buren County (5-14) 55 (OT)
The Warriors lost an overtime thriller in the SEISC Shootout despite 14 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots from Ivy Davidson.
Marlee Mertens added 14 points for the Warriors, who led by four points after three quarters before a Wapello comeback.
Davis County (9-12) 65, Van Buren County (5-15) 44
On Saturday night, the Warriors fell to Davis County in a non-conference battle.
Hillcrest Academy (6-14) 60, New London (1-18) 39
Hillcrest Academy lept out to a 20-7 lead after one quarter and 40-18 lead at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Ravens by one point in the second half.
Malia Yoder went off for 28 points to lead Hillcrest. Claire Withrow scored 12 points, and Niva Helmuth filled the stat sheet with eight points, 16 rebounds and five steals.
Sophie Malott scored 16 points for the Tigers. Mylee Miller finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.
