Girls basketball roundup: Columbus notches another win

Columbus (6-1) 38, Wapello (4-3) 31
Columbus put together a stellar second half against Wapello on Tuesday as the Wildcats completed the comeback.
Columbus trailed 15-8 at the half, but went on to outscore the Arrows 30-16 in the third and fourth to win it.
Ariana Vergara finished with 14 points for the Wildcats. Lily Coil ended with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Aracely Garza followed with eight points.
Pekin (3-4) 54, Hillcrest Academy (2-6) 39
Pekin got itself back in the win column on Tuesday with a victory over Hillcrest Academy.
The Panthers led 16-11 after one and 28-24 at the half. They got even better defensively in the second half, closing out the game with a 26-15 final two quarter.
Mid-Prairie (5-2) 78, Wilton (2-6) 37
Mid-Prairie had no problem with Wilton on Tuesday night.
The Golden Hawks were excellent in all facets of the game. Mid-Prairie won every quarter, 24-5, 27-13, 16-9 and 11-10.
Brooklyn Schneider finished with 21 points and eight rebounds. Callie Huber ended with a double double, 17 points and 11 boards. Nora Pennington tallied 13 points.
WACO (3-4) 44, Highland (6-2) 29
WACO is back in the win column after topping Highland on Tuesday. The Huskies win streak ends at two with the loss.
WACO led 33-14 at the first half break and never looked back. Highland went on to edge WACO 15-11 in the second half, but it wouldn’t be enough.
Emma Wagler led the Warriors with 13 points. Brenna Graber had 10 and Naomi Egli seven.
For Highland, Sarah Burton finished with 10 and Kerra Longbine nine. Stella Slaymaker followed with four.
Keota (1-6) 53, Belle Plaine (0-7) 28
Keota grabbed its first victory of the season against Belle Plaine on Tuesday.
The Eagles opened the game with a dominant first quarter, topping the Plainsmen 18-2. Keota went on to outscore the Plainsmen 35-26 the rest of the way.
Danville (4-4) 61, Van Buren County (1-5) 22
Danville was just too much for Van Buren County on Tuesday as the Bears were red hot on both ends of the floor.
Danville scored 34 points through the opening two period, while giving up just 13. The same held true in the second half as well, as VBC was outscored 27-9.
Ivy Davison led VBC with nine points. Shae Batten tallied four and Kayley Snowgren had three.
Mediapolis (6-1) 87, New London (0-7) 19
The New London girls basketball team did all it could on Tuesday night, but Mediapolis proved to be too much.
The Tigers were outscored 31-10, 21-4, 17-5 and 18-0 through four quarters.
Davis County (3-4) 45, Cardinal (2-5) 32
Cardinal held lead after the first and second quarter on Tuesday against Davis County, but the Mustangs closed strong.
Davis County outscored the Comets 30-12 through the third and fourth.
