Girls basketball roundup: Columbus wins again

Columbus (13-3) 41, Wapello (6-10) 28
Columbus picked up another Southeast Iowa Super Conference North victory on Tuesday with a victory over Wapello.
The Wildcats held the Arrows to single digits in three of four quarters on the night. The quarters played out, 11-7, 6-7, 17-1 and 7-13.
Ariana Vergara scored 16 points for Columbus. Aracely Garza ended with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Isabel Rendon finished with six points.
Pekin (6-9) 30, Hillcrest Academy (4-12) 23
Pekin put together a dominant second quarter against Hillcrest Academy, which ended up being the difference in the two’s contest on Tuesday.
Pekin and Hillcrest Academy were knotted at 4-4 after one, but the Panthers went on to win the second 11-3 for a 15-7 halftime lead. Pekin extended the lead once more after a 9-7 third period. The Ravens would win the fourth 9-6, but the Panthers advantage was too great.
Durant (5-9) 57, Mid-Prairie (8-6) 51
Mid-Prairie fell to Durant after a tough fourth quarter on Tuesday night. The Golden Hawks led 35-33 after three, but the Wildcats closed with a 24-16 fourth to take the win away from Mid-Prairie.
Brooklyn Schneider led Mid-Prairie with 11 points. Jovi Evans followed with 10 points and Callie Huber eight.
English Valleys (10-5) 43, Keota (3-11) 40
Keota nearly completed the comeback against English Valleys on Tuesday, but the Eagles ran out of time in the end.
The Eagles trailed 33-24 heading into the fourth, but they never gave up. Keota went on to outscore the Bears 16-10 in the final period to cut it to three.
Emily Conger led the way with 14 points for Keota. Dakota Dodd and Kennedy Jackson both had six.
Mediapolis (11-2) 75, New London (1-15) 9
New London was held to five points or less in all four quarters against a great Mediapolis team on Tuesday night.
The Tigers were outscored 22-3, 25-5, 16-0 and 12-1 through each frame.
